Everything happens for a reason.Laverne Roberts

Are you really trying to tell me that things like New Orleans, AIDS, sugar-free ice cream, crack babies, Hugh Jackman and cancer all happen for a reason?Dr. Cox

Synopsis

J.D. and Turk are extremely happy that Isabella's new nanny, Heather, is a very attractive girl. Turk tries to hide his attraction to the new nanny from Carla but fails after she catches him watching footage of Heather on the NannyCam. In order for Turk to not be attracted to her, he asks J.D. to take Heather out on a date (Turk finds all girls J.D. goes out with to be hideous). Unfortunately, they fail to hit it off, and Carla fires Heather. She and Turk later discover that Heather was actually a racist thief.

Dr. Kelso suspends Elliot after she uses a dog to try to cure a patient with the help of the Janitor. She later realizes, with the help of Carla, that she has not once thanked Dr. Kelso for her training. She does so and shows her appreciation by giving her deceased patient's dog to him to replace Baxter. By the end of the episode, Dr. Kelso ends Elliot's suspension and begins talking to her again.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cox enters into a debate with Nurse Roberts as to whether everything is part of a greater plan, but he eventually acknowledges her need to believe as she does. Laverne proves to be right when a girl who was stabbed has a tumor which was revealed by the wound. He is stunned the next day to discover that Laverne has been in a car accident on the way to work and is now in a non-responsive coma. Dr. Cox stares through the window of the unconscious Laverne's hospital room.

Fantasies

  • The Todd "gets word out" using a "Booby horn".
  • Turk imagines Elliot as a hairy man, proving his statement to JD that "any time you hook up with a chick, she automatically becomes hideous to me." This contradicts an earlier episode in which Turk had a sex dream about Elliot.
  • J.D. tries to convince Turk that he had sex with Heather in order for Turk to put her in the same situation as with Elliot. However it fails when J.D. claims he had a threesome with Kristin, a popular girl from high school, who also happened to know Heather's name. In addition it is reveal that three jocks who bullied J.D. turn out to be gay with each other and proceed to go and have a threesome themselves. Their jackets are emblazoned T.C.W., is either a homage to Jamie Moyer or to the high school in Remember the Titans, which Donald Faison appeared in.

Janitor story

I'd let her give me a bath, I don't care if my mom was watching.Ted

Hey baby, what are you guys watching?Carla

[Everyone agrees]

Football? Isn't the season over?

And then every male in the room felt totally in sync, resulting in the rarest of all phenomenon - the seamless collaborative guy lie.J.D.'s narration
The American season is over, we were watching Mexican Football.Keith
They started late this year.Doug
Because of the churro vendors.Todd
They went on strike and the players wouldn't cross the picket line.Ted
When the dispute turned violent, they called in Rodrigo Vasquez, the owner of the Baja Panditos to step in.J.D.
Thanks to señor Vasquez' experience dealing with the fruit pickers unions, he was able to broker a last minute deal and the season was salvaged.Dr. Kelso
And that's why we're watching football in the spring.
Whatever.

Trivia

  • Ken Jenkins is a dog lover and dog trainer, and it might be assumed that Boomer is one of his personal dogs.
  • Turk states that he finds Elliot repulsive because J.D. has slept with her, although it contradicts that he previously had a sex dream about her. This storyline is never continued in any other episode. He also contradicts himself with Stacy, a girl J.D. dated in college; he slept with her.
  • The "seamless collaborative guy lie" does not seem to consider the possibility that Carla would know about "Mexican football," although in previous episodes, characters have made assumptions about her because she is Latina.
  • Dr. Cox's opinion about whether things happen for a reason is changed since My Cabbage where he said they did regarding Cabbage's suspension. It's possible that the combined traumatic events of My Five Stages and My Lunch changed his opinion on the matter.
  • After the 'Boobie horn' all the people assembled are male apart from one woman standing between JD and Todd, it must be assumed that she is a lesbian.
