When Frank was admitted to Sacred Heart with pneumonia, J.D. and Katie promised him that he could stay at the hospital to recover for as long as he needed. He told them that he like to be there because it gave him some human interaction, and that he was lonely at home. However, J.D. found out that he was being discharged because his insurance didn't cover his stay. J.D. attempted to ask the new Chief of Medicine, Dr. Cox, if he could allow him to stay, but Dr. Cox wouldn't allow it. Eventually, J.D. convinced Cox, and Mr. Vaughn was back in the hospital recovering. ("My New Role")
